Proven! Our team of chemistry whizzes has analyzed this product’s label claims, and the ingredients that deliver them. Here’s the science behind why it works.

The Claim: Combats Free Radical Damage

Ingredient: Pomegranate Seed Oil - Extracts from this anti-oxidant rich tart fruit have been shown to help protect from cellular damage caused by exposure to UV radiation and inhibit lipid breakdown in the cell membrane.  Read study.

Ingredient: Green Tea - Who knew that the next best thing to drinking this anti-oxidant-rich tea is to slather it on your face? It’s been proven that topical use of green tea extracts decreases free-radical damage induced by UV rays—a nasty process that breaks down collagen and elastin (your skin's support structure) and causes pre-mature aging. Read study

The Claim: Reinforces Lipid Barrier

Ingredient: Aloe - Aside from being a soothing ointment for nasty sunburns, aloe extracts also help retain the water in your skin and reinforce the lipid barrier. Read study

Ingredient: Jojoba Oil - Pronounced ho-ho-ba, this natural plant-based oil helps other oils penetrate better since its waxy consistency is similar to our skin’s natural sebum. Read study

Ingredient: Sunflower Seed Oil - Jam-packed with linoleic acid, sunflower seed oil has been found to quickly reinstate the skin's barrier function, keeping moisture in. Read study.

To be honest I have only used it a couple x because I'm saving it for the warmer months. It's ok I have dry skin so for me nothing really screams awesome. I'm trying to go the natural route in hygiene so this is awesome for a natural sunscreen. In my pursuit of natural I'm having a hard time finding a moisturizer with spf to help moisturize and protect my dry skin. This does protect from UVA and UVB so just on that alone it has my approval. UVA protection is so crucial and yet not enough of the so - called natural sunblocks actually protect you from the UVA and UVB and this does so that alone it wins my vote, and also the inventor's persistence's for creating an all natural and effective sun protector.

  • Finally a product that works by sonia231

I have super sensitive skin and have tried many expensive products that claim to be hypoallergenic and have always had a bad reaction. I have oily, acne prone, sensitive skin. I was leaving on vacation and now that I am in my early 30's, I knew I needed to find a sunscreen a sap! I purchased this product in April a few weeks away from my vacation to Turks and Caicos. I am Hispanic but have a medium/dark skin coloring. I applied a pea size amount that initially turned white because of the zinc but it melted right into my skin within about a minute. Because of my oily skin there was no need to apply moisturizer. I waited to apply makeup for about 5 minutes. My makeup went on seamlessly. I kept waiting for my face to itch, get welts, burn, breakout. I had no reactions. It has a great citrus smell and left my face a little dewy and healthy. I had old acne scarring that started to fade. While in Turks and Caicos I made the mistake of not reapplying like I should have so I did burn. Lesson learned. I reapplied and not one sunburn. I wear this everyday. It is August and I am still on my first bottle. The only con is that I cant tell how much is left.

  • Love this stuff by mariposa

This is my favorite facial sunscreen ever - it gives enough moisture without becoming greasy - the best balance I've found so far - and I love that it's non-nano zinc. (I'm not a fan of barely-tested substances for skin & systemic absorption.) I also appreciate how it subtly evens out my fair skin, leaving the daily need for foundation & concealer only to certain areas. The ingredients, particularly non-nano zinc as the exclusive sun-blocking active, leave no need to worry about using this during pregnancy. EWG raved about this brand in their 2011/2012 Sunsceen Guides, which is why I originally tried it. I can't figure out why the Suntegrity brand is no longer listed in the EWG database at all in 2013 - very weird. Would love to know what's up with that. As far as I can see, it's one of the safest & most effective formulations out there. While it's pricey, as the primary daily product for skin protection & a likely candidate for systemic absorption, the health & safety stakes make it worthwhile. It's the priciest skin or cosmetic product I use on a daily basis.
