The Frosty 5

When It Comes to Winter Skincare Survival, Rely on These Five Essential Ingredients.

The weather outside may be frightful, but that doesn’t mean your skin needs to be. Cosmetic Chemist Ni’Kita Wilson dishes on ingredients that will keep your skin protected, hydrated and radiant—all winter long.

1. Shea Butter
Not only is shea butter packed with skin-calming sterols, but it triggers skin to produce its own natural sterols.  It also supplies the necessary lipids (oils) to help repair the natural lipid barrier, which is responsible for holding in moisture (read: supple, plump skin).

Shea Terra Marula Whipped Shea Butter

An anti-aging moisturing cream for the body.

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream

An all-over body cream the deeply hydrates and calms even severe skin conditions.

Bayberry Naturals Aloe & Shea Herbal Shower Gel

A gentle, exceptionally soothing, 100 percent vegan shower gel.

Snowberry Cellular Regeneration Night Cream

A reparative nighttime cream that stimulates and rejuvenates skin proteins, collagen and elastin.

2. Grape Seed Oil
This cooking staple is also great for repairing the skin barrier, which locks moisture inside the skin so cells have enough water to work efficiently.

MBeze Aim To Be Pleased Body Oil

A hand-poured blend of natural plant oils that moisturize, soften and leave a light scent of cherry blossom and sandalwood.

Carol's Daughter Almond Cookie Shea Souffle

A non-greasy, fast-absorbing, daily body moisturizer.

LaRocca Champagne & Shimmer Body Polish

A restorative, exfoliating body cleanser that refines and renews the skin—and leaves an all-over glow.

3. Vitamin E
This is a key ingredient that should be in every skincare regimen, especially during winter months. Loaded with antioxidants, vitamin E fights free radicals (which create wrinkles and sagging). It’s important to note that dry skin is more susceptible to damage under the surface than any other skin type, so you should protect, especially during the winter.

Sophyto Tocotrienol Super Skin Concentrate

A skin perfecting oil that delivers a radiant, healthy looking complexion while helping to prevent sun and environmental damage. Ni’Kita Tip: I even use this as a booster in my body cream for an extra dose of protection!

Clark's Botanicals Anti-Puff Eye Cream

A nourishing eye cream that targets puffiness, dark circles and wrinkles.

VMV Hypoallergenics Moisture Rich Mild-Mannered Cleansing Scrub for Dry Skin

A hydrating facial scrub that quenches and smoothes skin.

One Love Organics Skin Savior Waterless Multi-Balm

A multi-talented, 100 percent natural with organic ingredients, multi-purpose balm that cleans, moisturizes and conditions the skin.

4. Hyaluronic Acid/Sodium Hyaluronate
This is a humectant, meaning it absorbs and binds water on the surface of our skin, resulting in a moisture shield.  This keeps the top layers saturated with water so our skin is plump, supple and well hydrated.  It will also offset the uncomfortable dryness often associated with winter skin.

Kahina Giving Beauty Toning Mist

A refreshing oil-free bioactive mist that soothes, softens and revitalizes your complexion.

Recipe for Men Clear Shaving Gel

This non-foaming shaving gel allows for maximum shaving precision.

LiftLab Lift & Fix High Potency Solution

A healing and reparative solution formulated to strengthen the skin barrier, calm irritation and enhance healing.

First Aid Beauty Uplifting Serum

A firming and sculpting rollerball treatment for the face and neck.

Christopher Drummond Beauty SkinPrep Primer

An all-natural, vegetarian-based primer.

5. Tamanu Oil

Winter weather is notorious for causing dry, inflamed and irritated skin.  Tamanu oil is made up of ingredients proven to reduce inflammation (comparable to hydrocortisone), irritation and help with skin regeneration; it contains sterols to re-enforce the lipid barrier and reduce water loss. All of these benefits will help soothe skin battered by blistery winter conditions.

RMS Beauty Oil

A lightweight, highly concentrated multi-purpose beauty oil featuring exotic oils and rare herbal extracts.

Shea Terra Tamanu-E Cellular Regeneration Face Cream

A cellular regenerating face cream.

Shea Terra Marula Whipped Shea Butter

An anti-aging moisturing cream for the body.
