Pony Up

This fall, your hair don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing!

When it comes to fall 2012 hairstyle trends, it doesn’t get much more versatile than the pert ponytails we saw marching down many a runway. The look can be both sporty or sophisticated, and will take you from a trip to the gym to a swanky event.

We recruited celebrity hairstylists Erin Anderson (also a Sachajuan product educator) and Mordechai (owner of Yarok Beauty Kitchen), to dish some tips on achieving fall’s perfect ponytail. Follow their steps to hop in the pony express!

1. Start with a great palette (a.k.a. healthy hair!). Make sure your hair is receiving the nutrients it needs by using the right shampoo.

Erin says: Sachajuan Normal Shampoo  and Conditioner will hydrate, smooth and prep the hair for styling products.”

2. Take Your Position. A high ponytail is fun and flirty, while a lower ponytail delivers a more fashion forward, chic look.

Mordechai says: “The higher the ponytail, the more your cheeks will be accentuated and your eyes will look more slanted. And a more pumped-up, teased crown will make your face look thinner.”

3. Condition tips of hair. Give your ends some extra TLC so they shine as they swing.

Erin says: “Apply a few pumps of Sachajuan Shine Serum to keep ends looking strong.”

4. Get a grip. Adding texture to strands will allow pins and bands to hold securely.

Erin says: “Apply Sachajuan Ocean Mist liberally to wet or dry hair, then add a blast of heat. When used with a round brush, the mist provides great 'grip', volume and thickness.”

5. Pump up the volume. Rough and fluff by applying a volume powder to the crown of head.

Erin says: “Volume powder is my quick go-to for ANY type of updo. Again, hair needs grip to hold the security of the style in place and this gently absorbs oils, giving way to fresh volume and texture.”

6. Stay in place. Smooth any fly always with a spritz of spray.

Mordechai says, “If you’re going for a super tight pony tail, I suggest brushing the hair back while spraying so everything is slicked back.”
